These writers work for scientific journals and college magazines. Many of these writers are mainly teachers, professors or scientists. This is not the job for new writers. Academic writers have years and years of experience in their field.
Copywriters-
Copywriters are the top paid writers in the industry. Copywriters basically write a marketing ad to sell a product. So a great copywriter will reap in some excellent benefits.
Erotica writer-
These types of writers usually write under an assumed name because of the nature of the writing. Erotica writing is adult in nature. These types of writers are highly paid; sometimes getting paid up to a dollar per word.
Freelance writer-
These types of writers do not make money with one type of writing. This type of work is not permanent by any means. They usually work for several clients and/or publishers. This is the type of writing that many writers will begin their careers. It offers a lot of freedom but it is tough to make a living as a freelance writer.
Ghostwriter-
Ghostwriters are writers that write for other authors but that other gets the credit instead of the ghostwriter. The clients of ghostwriters are mainly high-profile people. It is a lot of work because ghostwriters have to plan out the book with the author, they have to do many interviews as well as do lots of research. This is a high-paid market but one that is hard to get into.
Grant writer-
These types of writers are basically copywriters but they specialize in writing grants for government and private institutions. This type of writing requires that you know quite a bit about law and business. It is a tough field to break into though.
Non-fiction book writer-
These types of writers are normally in a specialized field. They specialize in either law or financial or some other field. Because the fields that non-fiction writers specialize in are narrow in nature, this type of work does not produce full time writers.
Novelists-
Novelists are also known as fiction writers. They are authors that pen novels. This type of work takes a lot of time and dedication as writing a book could take up to a year or more to write. This is a great employment opportunity but a tough field to break into.
Poets-
Poets, of course, write poetry. This is one of the lower paid writing positions but it is a great way to break into the writing field.
Screen writer-
These types of writers specialize in writing scripts for movies and TV. But just as the fiction writing field is tough to break into, so is this specialized field. Many screen writers live in large cities where movies and TV shows are produced because even if their script does get accepted, usually changes need to be done often.
Speech writer-
These writers specialize in writing speeches for company leaders and politicians. This field can be extremely profitable but you do need to be knowledgeable in the fields of not only the topic that the speech is based on, as well as the speaker’s style.

When you do apply for a writing job, you will no doubt at some point be called for an interview. Interviewing for a writing job is not much different than interviewing for any other job. You will want to have a portfolio of your past writing on hand. If you have an extensive portfolio of writing projects, you will want to present around 6 of your best works. If you are an expert in one writing niche, showcase that niche. If you are mainly a screen writer, then talk about that area of your writing.
